Telling Children the Truth

It’s fairly common for parents to lie to their children. They do this to “protect” their children, or to maintain a fantasy for their children. But is it really okay to lie to them? Doesn’t that just teach them to lie, and create mistrust? This is what your students will be gabbing about in this class.

Difficulty: CEFR B1-B2 / IELTS 4.0-6.5 / BULATS 40-74 / TOEFL 57-109

Target Student Age: 14+

This presentation was tested in a 55-minute class.

The Situation:

Think about the lies that you were told as a child. Were they all necessary? Do you think they had a positive or negative impact on your development, or on your relationship with your parents?

Now, think about those lies again. If you were in the same situation, and chose to be honest, how could you express difficult truths tactfully, and in a way your child could understand?

 This presentation includes:

  • 2 vocabulary introduction slides
  • 5 opening discussion questions
  • 4 debates
  • 2 activities
  • 4 statistics for discussion

*Please note that all presentations have been made in such a way that they are not editable. This is done in order to ensure consistency in look and function, as well as protect the work that I have put into them. Thank you for your understanding.
